The Walnut Tree Shades is an American themed diner and cocktail bar, famous for its live music nights and deliciously big portions!

It is believed that the bar was frequented by American soldiers after the war and that is why it has always served up tasty treats from the other side of the pond.

Everything from classic burgers and hot dogs to chicken melts and crispy fries – the menu here is a favourite with the locals and with visitors to Norwich city centre. And don’t even get us started on the desserts! The Oreo Cookie Bash is a real American classic, as is the Rocklslide Brownie. Our mouths are watering just thinking about them!

Our Operations Manager, Jayde, recently redeemed her voucher from out last offer and hasn’t stopped raving about her experience:

“The Walnut Tree Shades is a classic retro-inspired American diner tucked away within the city centre. The cocktail bar, complete with a jukebox, has a lovely local feel to it and on specific nights there is live music bringing a bigger crowd to this little gem. Upstairs, the restaurant has been updated and mixes retro and modern chic. They have made great use of the space, ensuring that a quiet meal for two won’t be affected by bigger bookings.

“On previous visits i have gone for a classic burger, but on this occasion i tried the Chilli Dog after a Tickler recommended it to me via Twitter. This huge hot dog was topped with chilli and served with fries and coleslaw. The homemade coleslaw was delicious and there were plenty of crispy fires, more than good value for money! I would strongly reccommend any chilli or hot dog fans try this dish – it is a truly scrumptious American meal that will absoloutely have you returning! The Rockslide Brownie with custard came next – and even after that gigantic-sized meal, i could have easily eaten a second helping of dessert. Yummy!

We asked the owner Clare how she would like The Walnut Tree Shades to be known and she replied: “Exactly the way it is – a fun American-themed restaurant with huge portions of delicious food!

“We regularly have live jazz, blues and rock ‘n’ roll bands as well as open mic nights for locals to come and debut their talents. Whether you want a meal out to celebrate with the family, to enjoy a quiet meal for two or to have a few cocktails with your friends, we can cater for anything.”

The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, the décor was sympathetic to the original features of the building, and the food (I had the fish and chips) was absolutely spot on.

I was given a little tour of the bedrooms, restaurant and garden, and everything was perfect. I cannot wait to return for an overnight stay in this tranquil, peaceful location – I don’t think I’ll want to check out!”

“I wanted to share with you all my experiences of my trip to Orton Hall for the Imagine Spa Tickles offer we ran recently.  Three friends and I bought vouchers for the day at the spa with the Serail Mud treatment.

On arrival we gathered in an attractive reception area, where we filled in the usual medical questionnaire (standard practice for spas, make sure you allow some time for this if you are going). We were then shown around the facilities and given tokens for the lockers. The staff were wonderful the entire time; informative and personable.

The changing room was modest in size, and did not have individual cubicles, this wasn’t a concern for us, but if you are the shy type you could always use the shower cubicle to change.

The pool area was really nice; a decent sized pool with cushioned loungers surrounding it, there was also a Relaxation Room to one side with more loungers and a few magazines (you may want to take your own if you like to catch up on the glossies whilst you relax). Lots of natural light shone through from skylights, and there was a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna to enjoy plus pool-side showers to wash down after steaming/sauna.

Having never had a Serail mud treatment before I was unsure what to expect, but the Imagine staff talk you through it all. We were taken, two at a time, into a treatment space adjacent to the pool. There is a shower for before and after, and then you sit in a mosaic tiled booth. The Serail mud is self applied, with one for your body and another for your face, and then you are left to sit and relax whilst steam is pumped into the booth. It’s a great chance to chat and catch up with a friend, who can also make sure you cover that bit on your back you can’t quite reach!

The staff give you the option for them to come and check on you half way through, but we felt were happy without so had the time entirely to ourselves. The end result is silky smooth skin, and after a thorough shower-down and change of swimwear it was back to the pool facilities for us.

We had all taken two sets of swimwear, and although I feel sure the mud would wash out it is probably best to wear a darker fabric for this treatment rather than your favourite costume, just to be on the safe side. It is also helpful to have someone with you to point out any remaining bits of mud stuck to your ear or middle of your back!

Orton Hall has a formal restaurant, bar dining and an Inn adjoining so you can easily eat here with a few pricing options at hand. We went on Mothers Day and all options were fully booked so clearly the venue is a popular one, therefore pre-booking is a sensible option to avoid disappointment.

All in all we had a great time, the staff were great, the location was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome.”

We wanted to share the good news regarding 2 significant milestones that were reached last week at Tickle Towers

Firstly we celebrated our 1st birthday on Tuesday 24th May! Time really does fly when you are having fun and these last 12 months have been nothing short of amazing. We marked the event in style with some celebratory drinks and canapés for our clients and customers at Rare Grill and Steakhouse in Norwich.

LOCAL DISCOUNT WEBSITE TICKLES ARCHANTS FANCY

Archant has announced its acquisition of a 50% stake in Tickles.co.uk, a local group-buying website, where merchants offer significant discounts on a specific product or service, in return for a guaranteed minimum number of sales over a limited time period.

The service is free to users, who sign up to receive local offers. If they like the offer, they purchase a voucher online which they can redeem with the merchant, but only if a minimum number of people required have signed up for the offer.

Since its launch in May 2010, local “Ticklers” have already saved over £200,000 in Norfolk and Cambridge through the deals available on the tickles.co.uk website, and the service is set to launch in Ipswich, and across the rest of the country in the next few weeks.

Serge Taborin, Archant Group Business Development Director, said: “This concept is extremely valuable to merchants because it is virtually risk free – not only are the economics of each successful deal known in advance, but if the deal does not attract a pre-agreed number of Ticklers, the deal lapses and neither the merchant nor the users are charged a penny. This encourages interested Ticklers to share the offers with their friends, often through Facebook and Twitter, so that the minimum number is achieved.
“Just as importantly, Tickles is a group-only deal – merchants don’t discount prices for individuals or passing trade, so they can maintain their existing pricing structure. This makes it a novel and cost-effective way of attracting new customers who can then be introduced to additional products or services, while protecting the core business model”
